How to Hard Reset the XV6700

A hard reset wipes the device and restores all factory settings (if you haven’t modded the ROM). All data and installed programs will be wiped clean.

Hold both softkeys (“-”) and push the reset button once. Release the reset button while still holding onto the softkeys. A screen will appear asking if you want to reset all data. Press “Y” to reset, and “N” to cancel.

No XV6800 at 3GSM Congress?

Our buddy over at Big Internet Mall went to the 3GSM Congress and specifically sought out UTStarcom to check out the forthcoming XV6800. It wasn’t there. What does that mean? Probably nothing since XV6800 is CDMA, and the visitors to 3GSM were, obviously, GSMphiles:

AKU 3.3 is an upgrade to Windows Mobile which, up until shortly, UTStarcom, decided not to issue for the XV6700. So some creative types went and ported an existing 3.3 ROM to the XV6700:

GPS Location with XV6700

The XV6700 can be used as a GPS device. The use of a bluetooth GPS receiver was mandatory until Navizon came out. If you live in a fairly populous location, your area may be heavily mapped using Navizon. This would enable you to use the 6700 as a GPS unit:

If you purchased your 6700 before August or September 2006, first thing you should do is apply the Verizon upgrade:

The upgrade will wipe your device, so back up everything first.

The upgrade does several important things:

Direct Push Technology- Keep your Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Inbox
up-to-date using Direct Push Technology. Plus, you can now browse your
corporate address book over-the-air with Exchange 2003 SP2. Faster
transfer and synchronization of data- Outlook data sent between
Exchange Server and a Windows Mobile-based device is significantly
compressed, enabling faster transfer and synchronization of data;
Better protection of device data and management of devices;
Added a Voice Dialing application to allow you to leverage the handsfree capability already on the device;
Main Today Screen provides you the capability to lock the device and prevent inadvertently activity;
Corrected an issue where unknowingly, to the user, the device would enter into “Flight Mode;”
Added the capability to enable Wi-Fi and CDMA simultaneously.
